It was a widely misinterpreted movie, I think…. People tend to say, “Why didn’t she end up with him? He was so nice!” But I think that he was really quite guilty of projecting a fantasy onto this girl that she didn’t necessarily deserve, and that, honestly, he was pretty wrapped up in his own selfish point of view… We’ve all been guilty of it. I’m sure I’ve done the same. And we all do it to one degree or another in every relationship. But it’s just funny to me, because I felt like the point of that movie was illuminating this guy who is basically delusional, who keeps projecting all these things onto this girl, and how that’s a problem for him, and how he then sort of grows out of it. But it seems like a lot of the people that see the movie don’t quite catch that. They just think he’s a great guy.

Is it because she made it clear from the start what she wanted from the relationship and what she was willing to give and then didn’t change her mind? (P.S. Tom agreed that he was fine with not being serious even though he clearly wasn’t fine with it)

Is she a bitch because she broke up with a guy when she was no longer happy in the relationship and didn’t want to make herself miserable by sticking around.

Or is it because she didn’t fall madly in love with Tom?

Because you know when someone has feelings for you you are obligated to return those feelings. And even if you don’t feel the same way you should ignore how you feel and cater to the other person’s feelings and needs because heaven forbid you ~break their heart~ by not being in love with them.

Because you know everyone can just control how and when and if they fall in love. 

God damnit

I used to think that Summer was a bitch.

up until I did some of the same things and realized life’s not quite so clear-cut.

which kind of makes me happy. it’s no fun disliking someone as pretty as zooey ;p

I think a lot of people think she’s a bitch because the story is from Tom’s point of view and because we’ve been shown all our life in movies that if you love someone enough and try hard enough that person will return your affection. But in the real world that kind of perseverance when you don’t feel the same way can get real creepy real fast. 

Although I don’t blame Tom for being upset that she didn’t love him. I’d be upset too if pretty, pretty Zooey turned me down. :)
